LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man who has used Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction has been sentenced to six months of community control in federal prison.
The man, who is 21, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of possessing and distributing a controlled substance in the United States, U. S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Florida said. He was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and to pay a restitution of $6 million.
Investigators found more than 20 grams of Viagra in the man’s home, a search warrant served for the search of the man’s car and the car keys to his vehicle. Authorities also seized a significant amount of methamphetamine and Viagra. The man has been listed as a “ netted accountable party,” and authorities said he was also under investigation for distributing a prescription-drug drug.
According to a release from the U. Attorney’s Office, the man agreed to plead guilty to the federal crime of possession of and trafficking in illegal drugs. He will be sentenced in exchange for a sentence of six months’ imprisonment for the federal crime of distributing a prescription drug and a $10,000 fine. The case was transferred from the U. District Attorney’s Office in Miami to the U. Attorney’s Office in Orlando.
The man faces up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced by U. District Judge David C. Malek in Orlando on Nov. 17.
Assistant U. Attorney Kristen G. Paz, who was assigned to the case, said her office will work with the man to determine whether he is a “ netted accountable party.”
“I am committed to the highest standards of professional conduct and ethics,” she said.
“I will be serving a sentence that is appropriate for a defendant that has been placed on community control for more than a year.”
Malek, who is also the U. Attorney for the Western District of Florida, will serve a six-month prison sentence. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 17.
Attorney David C. Malek will preside over the case.
